iPhone 15 Pro Max is still far from its big debut, but that doesn’t mean the rumor mill is doing what it knows best: spreading the wildest rumors ever! According to @URedditor, the iPhone 15 Pro Max will just include an improved Telephoto lens featuring periscope technology. The tipster claimed in a tweet that this could totally happen as it had been independently verified. Well, could it, though?! Check it out for yourself:

What are your thoughts about iPhone 15 Pro Max’s photography skills and features? How important are these things actually for Apple?

Is the periscope lens a real game-changer for the next-gen iPhones?

The periscope lens work quite smoothly, and it is more than meets the eye, like literally. The lens would allow the iPhone 15 Pro Max to capture pictures with up to 5x–6x optical zoom, as opposed to up to 3x on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Such details have been backed up by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo last month.

Some Android manufacturers, like Samsung, Huawei, and Google, already employ this technology, which enables higher optical zoom. Devices like the Galaxy S23 Ultra and the Pixel 7 Pro feature between 5x and 10x optical zoom.

So, practically the periscope lens would work like this: when capturing a picture, the optical zoom won’t blur the picture as much as digital zoom does when you zoom in. Quite impressive, isn’t it?! Also, another thing with the periscope lens is that the light that is absorbed by the image sensor is twisted somehow or even “folded.” Such a feature is quite remarkable, especially because it enables a device’s compact design to actually embed a longer distance between the camera parts.

As previously said, Apple is expected to release the iPhone 15 Pro Max in September. The periscope lens, though, could be available only for the high-end versions.
