Eating Habits That Slow Aging And Add Years To Your Life

There are a lot of ways to add years onto your life, many of which don’t involve changing what you eat or the supplements you take. It’s important to remember that no one diet is right for everyone, but if you want to live a long and healthy life it’s important to learn how to eat optimally.

In this post, I will explain some eating habits that can slow aging and increase your lifespan.

1. Eat More Protein

Proteins break down into amino acids, which are the building blocks of life. Research shows that as we get older our bodies produce less protein than when we were younger. As a result, old people have a harder time building muscle mass and strength.

One way to help prevent age-related muscle loss is through diet. Specifically, eating more protein at each meal has been shown to help preserve lean muscle mass in older adults. This helps individuals maintain their strength so they can continue doing the activities they enjoy well into old age.

2. Eat Less Sugar

Sugar may be delicious but high amounts of it can cause serious health problems later on in life, including heart disease and diabetes. Because sugar is so prevalent in foods today, many people struggle with consuming too much of it.

3. Eat more fish — especially salmon. Fatty fish such as salmon, tuna, trout, mackerel and herring are packed with omega-3 fatty acids which help reduce inflammation in the body. Omega-3 fatty acids also have been shown to improve brain function as we age.

4. Enjoy healthy fats such as olive oil and nuts. Extra virgin olive oil contains polyphenols, which are antioxidants that can help fight aging and cancer. Nuts such as almonds and walnuts contain a variety of nutrients including vitamin E, which has been found to protect against cognitive decline in aging adults.
