Superfoods That Will Get Your Skin Glowing

Skin is the largest organ of the body, and it is important that we take care of it. Skin cells are constantly being replaced, which means a healthy diet is essential to keeping your skin looking and feeling good.

  • Blueberries: Blueberries are a rich source of antioxidants, which help protect your skin from damaging free radicals caused by pollution, ultraviolet light, and other environmental stressors. Anthocyanins, the pigment that gives blueberries their color, may also help protect against Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Beans: Beans are a great source of protein and other nutrients like fiber and zinc. They are also rich in antioxidants, which help to prevent damage to the body’s cells. Eating beans can help lower cholesterol levels as well as blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart disease.
  • Avocados: You probably already know how beneficial avocados are for your health. It’s time for you to learn about their benefits for your skin as well. Avocados are rich in vitamins E and C which help keep your skin looking young. They also contain essential fatty acids which help repair damaged cells so your skin will look smoother.
  • Green tea: Green tea is rich in catechins, which stimulate cell regeneration and prevent cell damage caused by free radicals; these catechins also keep your skin moist, smooth and elastic.
  • Salmon: If you’re not into fish, salmon might be a good place to start. It’s mild in flavor and goes with just about anything. Try cooking it on the stovetop with some coconut oil, sea salt and pepper and then adding it to salads or rice bowls. (You can also grill or bake it.) Or make an open-faced sandwich by topping a slice of whole-grain bread with lowfat cream cheese and smoked salmon slices. The omega-3 fatty acids in salmon may decrease inflammation and improve heart health as well as reduce acne by reducing insulin levels and suppressing IGF-1, a growth factor that can trigger breakouts. Omega-3s may also help skin retain moisture for a youthful appearance.
