When Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 first came out in late 2022, a lot of people thought that it represented the pinnacle and that no other chipset could surpass it. But you know that old proverb our parents used to tell us: don’t count your chickens before they hatch.

It turns out that a new top-end chipset released by MediaTek outperforms the mighty Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in Geekbench results. That special chipset is the new Dimensity 9200+ that will come out in less than two weeks.

Geekbench 6 shows impressive scores for the Dimensity 9200+

GSMArena has spotted the surprising information on Weibo, and it seems that it is indeed possible to dethrone top-end Snapdragon chipsets. The Geekbench test shows 5,655 multi-core points and 2,121 points for the single-core score. These results represent significantly more than most of the phones that run on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and that were tested by the guys from GSMArena.

Let’s consider, for instance, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, meaning the best smartphone that the South Korean giant currently has to offer. The phone runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. However, Geekbench 6 testing reveals that the phone scores only 1869 points in single-core testing and 4932 points for multi-core scores. There’s no need to be the best at math in order to realize the significant differences between these results and what those of the MediaTek Dimensity 9200+ reveal.

However, all three of the phones from the Samsung Galaxy S23 lineup, meaning the standard Galaxy S23, the S23+, and the S23 Ultra, all run on the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset from Qualcomm.
