What the Next Targets of NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope Will Be

Less than a week ago, we gladly shared the news about NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) revealing the first full-color images of the Universe’s depths. We’ve seen new images of stars, galaxies, nebulae, and more. We’re talking about the world’s most powerful space telescope, which means that we can definitely expect more space discoveries!

CNET confirms that we can expect a lot more from JWST, as the photos that were already published represent only “the preface of JWST’s book.” According to the publication, we can expect the telescope to shift its powerful gears toward massive black holes, among other celestial phenomena such as galaxy mergers, binary stars ejecting smoke signals, and more.

Black holes remain uttermost mysteries

Despite living in 2022, when science is tremendously more advanced compared to how it was back in 1783, astronomers still have a lot more to learn about black holes. That latter year marked the time when John Michell, who was an English country parson, theorized the idea that a volume in space can have so much gravity that not even light itself can escape it. As you’ve already guessed, he was talking about black holes.

Even today, scientists still don’t know why black holes defy the laws of physics in so many ways. These cosmic monsters are even able to stop time near the event horizon, they possess infinite gravity, and the examples could continue. It’s great to find out that astronomers want to use Webb’s enormous power to unveil more mysteries regarding black holes!

Here’s what an important statement writes:

To realize the James Webb Space Telescope’s full science potential, it is imperative that the science community quickly learns to use its instruments and capabilities.
