Oura has revealed their newest sleep staging algorithm that is more accurate than ever!

Thanks to the newest technology offered by the Oura Ring, users can monitor their sleep quality with more accuracy than ever before, the device collecting temperature, movement, heart rate and HRV data from the wearer to do so.

Sure enough, the output from the algorithm has shown results that match the ones from polysomnography by up to 79 percent.

The company states that their latest technology is “the new gold standard in wearable sleep tracking.”

It’s taken a couple of years for them to develop the algorithm, research having been published in the Sensors journal to prove its efficiency as well.

The algorithm provides analysis of the four sleep stages – light, wake, deep and REM (rapid eye movement) – by registering the wearer’s temperature, heart rate, movement and HRV data through a great quality sensor.

As mentioned before, according to Oura, when compared to polysomnography, the technology is no less than 79 percent accurate.

They note that the average sleep-tracking wearable does not offer more than 60-65 percent accuracy so if true, their improvement is obviously significant.

This algorithm was built based on a dataset that contains more than 1,200 nights of sleep, belonging to a large and diverse number of study participants that have a variety of body types and living in different conditions and countries.

Furthermore, the same dataset also took into consideration other pieces of important information such as their sleep disorders, making sure to include such people in their study as well as age, optimizing their technology for people between the ages of 15 and 73.

But the Oura Ring is not just for those who want to track their sleep.

This smart health wearable is also great for monitoring the user’s heart health and logging in their exercise.

The Oura Ring charges fully in 20 to 80 minutes, lasting for up to seven days with one single charge, which is really convenient.
