The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria is an upcoming LOTR-themed survival crafting game that was first revealed last year.

You assume command of a crew of Dwaves attempting to retake the fabled Moria from the Shadows that skulk in the mines’ deepest caverns.

Return to Moria received another chance to shine at the Summer Game Fest today, finally showcasing the gameplay we can look forward to when it comes later this autumn.

Although base building and exploration predominate, the game’s warfare was also shown.

In the game, survival appears to take many different forms.

As previously said, we saw a good deal of the Dwarves constructing a new base inside Moria to aid in defending themselves against the demons lurking around every corner, but we saw some combat as well.

Action-wise, it resembles Deep Rock Galatic slightly, but obviously with a more medieval feel. That is quite logical given the fact that the game emphasizes co-op gameplay.

As you try to retake Moria, you can team up with up to 8 other players online.

The game, in any case, isn’t your typical Lord of the Rings video project. Those games often center on the fellowship or the numerous conflicts that have occurred throughout Middle Earth’s past.

Even if a game borrows a little from something that is already incredibly successful, it may be entertaining to see it explore a new genre.

However, the IP attempted a similar endeavor with The Lord of the Rings: Gollum lately with limited success.

Fans will have to wait and see how Return to Moria does, as it is a whole new crew.

There isn’t a set release date for The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria yet. If all goes according to plan, it should be released before the end of the year.

Players will be able to enter the mines on the PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms whenever it launches.
