Samsung is preparing intensely for the release of the new Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Flip5 foldable phones, and the South Korean giant clearly has a lot of work to do in order to make the world forget about the previous Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4. No disrespect intended for these latter devices, but clearly, Samsung could have done better work in some areas.

The world clearly needs more smartphones that are resistant to water and dust, and we now have confirmation that the forthcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Flip5 will do pretty well against external factors that might damage them.

GSMArena has discovered, due to a tweet from a leakster, that Samsung’s next foldable smartphones, meaning the Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Flip5, are rumored to offer the best ingress protection in their class. The source reveals that these devices are expected to achieve an IP58 rating, surpassing anything that was previously seen in similar form factors.

While it may not reach the IP68 rating of most traditional flagship phones, the IP58 rating means solid dust protection and significant progress for foldable devices, considering the complexity of their hinges. Samsung has made significant advancements in the protection of its foldable lineup, and the initial model lacks any ingress protection. Previous iterations, such as the Z Fold2, improved the hinge against dust, and the Z Fold3 and Z Fold4 introduced official water resistance ratings.

Samsung has made the big announcement that it will host its next Galaxy Unpacked event on July 27 in order to release both the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Z Flip 5. In other words, the South Korean behemoth has some intimidating plans for the near future, and it confirms once again that “foldable” will represent the future of smartphones. Hopefully, all of those foldables will also feature protection against water.
