New Research Reveals When We Gain the Most Weight

There’s a new study out there that reveals the period of adult life when we gain the most weight, and the answer might surprise you. There’s an age-old preconception that people gain the most weight around their 40s and 50s, but the study in question contradicts the idea.

In a nutshell, the new research claims that Americans become as fat as they can between their 20s and 30s, as The Hill informs us. The new study analyzed data of over 13,800 participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey for a period of 10 years. Interestingly enough, women were found to gain more weight than men.

An average extra weight of 17.6 pounds

The research found among the participants that the extra average weight for them was 17.6 pounds (aka almost 8 kg) for the period between their 20s and 30s.

Larry Tucker, lead author of the study and also a BYU professor of exercise science, explained as The Hill quotes:

The U.S. obesity epidemic is not slowing down,

Without question, 10-year weight gain is a serious problem within the U.S. adult population.
