Motorola Edge 30 Ultra vs. Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra – Which Phone is Better?

Source: Motorola

While the main camera setup of most flagship phones out there revolves around 60MP, Motorola has decided to think outside the box a little. The company launched the new Motorola Edge 30 Ultra back in September, a device that mainly stands out due to its incredible 200MP main camera.

Some information leaked online before the launch itself that Motorola might be preparing a 200MP phone. While many have chosen to remain skeptical and apply the good old “don’t count your chickens before they hatch” principle, it was great to see that the information was correct.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, on the other hand, represents the latest flagship of the South Korean giant. The device was launched back in February, and it’s pretty difficult to say for sure which one of the two smartphones is better. That’s why we’re here to shed some light on the mystery!

Display

Motorola Edge 30 Ultra is equipped with a P-OLED display of 6.67 inches, a mind-bending refresh rate of 144Hz, 1250nits for peak brightness, and HDR10+. As for Samsung’s new S22 Ultra, the device’s Dynamic AMOLED display is also nothing but weak – it measures 6.8 inches, has a refresh rate of 120Hz, 1750nits for the maximum brightness, while HDR+ is also present.

Even though the display of the S22 Ultra is a little larger than the one of Motorola’s device, and it’s also of better quality, we still have to give Samsung a slap on the wrist because of the inferior refresh rate. We consider Motorola Edge 30 Ultra to have better display characteristics than what Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has to offer. However, this also doesn’t mean that you should quit using Samsung Galaxy S22 cold turkey if you have such a device.

Processor

Motorola Edge 30 Ultra is powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, which is easily the most powerful mobile chipset that Qualcomm has ever made. However, the Exynos 2200 chipset that’s present on the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra version that’s shipping in Europe is also pretty powerful. Samsung’s device is equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 for the rest of the world.

Cameras

Both Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra have high-end cameras. While the 200MP sensor of Motorola’s phone is hard to beat, the S22 Ultra carries the main snapper of 108MP for the rear camera. Both main cameras of the two flagships are able to record video up to 8K quality,

When it comes to the front cameras, Motorola has the advantage once again due to the presence of the 60MP snapper. Samsung’s Galaxy S22 Ultra only carries a 40MP sensor in the front.

In the end, we all have to admit that if you want to get the goat of someone who’s especially excited about the cameras of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, all you have to do is remind him that the one mounted on the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra reaches 200MP.

Price

You can buy the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra for only about $700. As for Motorola’s beauty, you can get it at roughly $400 more. That’s a pretty significant difference.

Conclusions

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is not too different from the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra. Buying either one of the two phones is a great deal. But if the price is a decisive aspect for you, buying the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is the better option.

If you want better cameras, you should choose the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra. If other aspects are decisive for you, the best option may differ.

Surely having a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra or Motorola Edge 30 Ultra in your hands for testing can give you those butterflies in your stomach, and it’s understandable. Both devices represent majestic pieces of high-end tech.
