If you don’t want to be on the menu of mosquitoes, you should stop wearing certain colors that attract those insects. One explanation for why mosquitoes hurtle right towards our skin to chow down on it is that they see it as being red, regardless of our race and ethnic background.

NewsMax.com speaks about new research that reveals what seemed highly improbable: mosquitoes are attracted to certain colors, including red. Therefore, it’s obvious that if you stop wearing certain colors, you’re less likely to get bitten by a mosquito. However, there’s still a catch, as mosquitoes always see our skin as being red.

Four major cues that can attract a mosquito

Jeffrey Riffell, the senior study author and also a professor of biology who activates at the Univerity of Washington, declared as NewsMax.com quotes:

I used to say there are three major cues that attract mosquitoes: your breath, your sweat and the temperature of your skin,

In this study, we found a fourth cue: the color red, which can not only be found on your clothes, but is also found in everyone’s skin. The shade of your skin doesn’t matter, we are all giving off a strong red signature.

The mosquito species known as Aedes aegypti, which is a common one, has been discovered to identify CO2 from our breath through smell for further looking for specific colors such as red, black, orange, and more. The final goal is to determine if there’s any food around. Also, these mosquitoes won’t have their appetite stimulated if they detect colors such as white, green, blue, and purple.

We should never underestimate being bitten by a mosquito. These flying vampires transmit dangerous diseases such as Malaria, the West Nile virus, the Zika virus, and so on.
