Musk to reveal robotaxi on August 8

Tesla will reveal its robotaxi product on Aug. 8, CEO Elon Musk said in a social media post on X.

Elon Musk has been discussing the robotaxi initiative for years, which could potentially become a new and major business for Tesla.

This has come at a time when investors are becoming wary of the company due to a slowdown in growth.

Following Musk’s tweet, Tesla shares increased by over 3% in after-hours trading. After Reuters reported that plans for Tesla’s much-anticipated low-cost car model had been abandoned, Musk shared the reveal date on Friday. Musk accused Reuters of “lying.”

According to CNBC, in 2015, Elon Musk told shareholders that Tesla’s cars would achieve “full autonomy” within three years.

It is also worth noting that according to the same website, in 2016, he said Tesla would able to send one of its cars on a cross-country drive without requiring any human intervention by the end of the following year.
