Apple Watch Series 2 – Is it Worth Buying in 2022?

Source: pcguide.com

Apple Watch Series 2 was released in September of 2016 so it’s safe to say that it’s been out for quite a while. In fact, in the world of fast developing electronics, some may call it ancient!

However, that’s obviously not necessarily the case and this device might just still be worth purchasing in 2022!

This is because it features fitness tracking capabilities, a larger display and many other useful tools when compared to models that came before it.

Not to mention that since it’s an older iteration, it’s more accessible than the newer ones.

With that being said, this review is here to answer a very important question – is the Apple Watch Series 2 worth buying or should you go for the latest model instead?

First of all, as mentioned before, this device has a great fitness tracking feature and since this is why most people purchase an Apple Watch in the first place, this model will do just fine.

Furthermore, it will perfectly track your heart rate, a variety of exercises and even monitor your sleeping patterns.

Not to mention that you can even use it in the pool or at the beach since it is waterproof.

As a downside, however, this watch doesn’t support cellular data which means you will need to have your phone with you all the time if you also wish for the device to record GPS.

The phone has to be connected to WiFi or mobile data as well which is a clear disadvantage when compared to newer models that come with their own cellular connectivity.

Obviously, if this is something you really want, maybe look for a different Apple Watch but if it’s not a deal breaker for you, this one still has a lot of usability.

Unfortunately, it looks like Apple no longer has Series 2 on its official website, which is typically not a good sign when it comes to supporting older models of electronics.

As you may or may not know, Apple only releases updates for at least 5 years after the release of all of their products which means they were only ensured until last year for this model.

For the time being, the Apple Watch Series 2 can still be updated to watchOS 6.3 but that’s it, nothing beyond that.

It’s also not compatible with other devices that use iOS 15 or later. If you’re looking for something that does, Apple Watch Series 3 is the next oldest device you should consider.

If you want a smartwatch that has all the basic functionality of one but is on a budget, then the Series 2 is definitely worth it even in 2022.

After all, the only true inconvenience is the dependence on your phone and on a connection to the internet.

In the end, the Apple Watch Series 2 may be five iterations behind the latest model but it still holds up in more ways than not.

Whether or not it’s a good choice for you, however, it solely depends on your own needs and situation.

All in all, this product is good pick if you are looking for a simple Apple watch that does its job at an affordable price and if you are not too inconvenienced by the drawbacks such as the lack of updates and dependence on your phone.
