Me time is important for your mental health. It can help you lower your stress level and recharge your batteries. You will feel more relaxed, less stressed and happier when you take time to do the things you enjoy. Start today and make time for yourself each day, even if it’s just 15 minutes.

TIP 1: FIND TIME TO DO WHAT YOU ENJOY

Create a list of activities that you enjoy doing, such as going for a walk, reading or watching a movie. Check this list when you’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed. Remember, there is no right or wrong way to relax. Do what feels good to you.

TIP 2: CREATE A RELAXATION ZONE

Find a space where you can be alone and create a relaxing atmosphere with candles, soft music or photos that make you smile. Make sure this private space has everything that makes you feel comfortable and supported, such as pillows, blankets or anything else that helps you relax. This will be your personal relaxation zone and a place where you can go whenever you need some me-time.

TIP 3: GET HELP

Employer/partner/friends/family/children support is an important part of creating ‘me time’. Let them know what days/times you will not be available for any interruptions or distractions so they can respect that time for you and help out with the distraction free schedule.

TIP 4: SCHEDULE IT

Decide on a day, week or month that you want your ‘me time’. Plan ahead and set aside the time when you can do things you love and don’t have to worry about any distractions.

TIP 5: Listen to music. Music is proven to have a positive effect on our moods. It’s been shown that listening to music before bed can help you sleep better, which will leave you feeling refreshed for the next day ahead.
