The Upcoming Battlefield Project Is An Ambitious One Judging Based On Recent Job Listings

Even if Battlefield 2042’s debut was a big failure, it should be unsurprising that DICE and EA are already preparing on an improved version of the 2020 game for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox One. There were a number of issues with the release of Battlefield 2042, including a lack of fan-favorite or simply fundamental content from earlier games. The lack of a single-player campaign exacerbated the problem of missing material.

However, a single-player campaign is notably mentioned in a recent job posting from EA for a design director working on the game.  The term “single-player” appears in the job description. Nonetheless, it is still early to get excited. As a result, the next paragraph should still be treated with some skepticism:

Reporting to the studio GM, you will manage the design team and design vision of a new Battlefield campaign. Your job is to orchestrate the mission design, narrative, game mechanics, and systems to create the highest quality experience possible. You foster relationships with creative, engineering, and production to create an inclusive design team.

If you think the job sounds good, the job listing also mentions that as a single-player campaign designer, your responsibility is to ensure that the key concepts of the Battlefield brand are integrated throughout the whole experience. Once hired, you’ll work with the studio’s designers to create an incredible campaign from idea to release. You are also responsible for driving product design iterations based on input from your colleagues, corporate partners, and team members while maintaining the overall vision of the product.

In addition, the job description includes a hint that this campaign would be more ambitious than past Battlefield games. Design efforts must be put towards producing a single-player campaign that is as good as possible according to the job listing. We have no idea when we’ll get to see some of this campaign. Production of the videogame is probably in its early phases, and it will be at least two years before we see any new material from it.
