Google has finally launched the much-awaited feature of streaming Android apps from supported smartphones to Chromebooks. The new feature allows users to easily stream apps from Android devices to a Chromebook and interact with them as they would on their devices, and XDA brings us the details after discovering the information in a tweet.

The feature was announced over a year ago and is now available with the latest update to the “Cross-Device Services” on the Google Play Store. The list of supported devices includes Google Pixel devices, Asus Zenfone 9, Nothing Phone 1, Oppo A78 5G or Find N2 Flip, Redmi’s A2 or Note 12, and Xiaomi’s 12T or 12T Pro.

Android 13 is a “must”

Having Android 13 is a “must” for the “smartphone to Chromebook streaming business.” To get the new feature working, users need a few things, including a supported handset running Android 13, as the feature does not work with Android 14 DP2. Users need to check their version of Cross-Device Services and make sure it’s been updated to version 1.0.285.1 from the Google Play Store.

While the list of supported devices is currently relatively short, the new feature could be game-changing for Chromebook users. The feature allows users to access and interact with their favorite apps on a larger screen, using the keyboard and mouse, which can significantly improve their productivity. Additionally, it can also save users time and effort by eliminating the need to install the same apps on both their smartphone and Chromebook, as they can access them on their Chromebook by simply streaming them from their smartphone.

This feature could particularly benefit those who use both their smartphone and Chromebook for work or personal use, as it provides a seamless way to access their apps and data across both devices. It also enables users to use apps that are not available on the Chromebook, which can expand its functionality.
