The ongoing COVID pandemic has changed the lives of many of us and, unfortunately, ended some of them. Millions of people lost their lives while battling the coronavirus, and others were impacted by economic problems. Businesses ruined, jobs lost, lockdowns, restrictions, and many deaths and hospitalizations – that’s the summary of more than two years of the COVID pandemic.

CNN informs the world that data from Johns Hopkins University reveals a horrifying number of COVID-related deaths worldwide that have been reported since the pandemic started: over 6 million souls leaving this world, hopefully for a better one.

It’s not over ’til it’s over

As the force of the Omicron variant seems not to be so strong as before, and as the world now has a lot of ways to fight the coronavirus, many people are tempted to believe that the pandemic is practically over. But Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, is there once again to warn us to stay cautious:

It’s too early to declare victory over #COVID19. Many countries are facing high rates of hospitalization & death. With high transmission, the threat of a new, more dangerous variant remains real. We urge all people to exercise caution and all governments to stay the course.

Even though the USA is recently facing far fewer COVID infections than before, it remains the hardest-hit country by the coronavirus pandemic. Information provided by worldometers.info reveals that more than 80.9 million COVID infections had been reported by the USA since the start of the pandemic. A total of over 985.900 deaths due to COVID were reported as well.

According to the same source, India is the second-most affected country in the world by the pandemic. It reported over 42.9 million infections, which means almost half as many as the USA reported.
