Hogwarts Legacy – Here’s Why You Should Never Pet the Cats!

All the cats roaming around the castle in Hogwarts Legacy are hard to resist petting, but one Harry Potter fan on Reddit has issued a warning to those who can’t help but pet every single cat they see.

Every witch and wizard who is an Animagus in Harry Potter, meaning that they have the power to change into one single animal at will, must be officially registered as such with the Ministry of Magic, according to Wizarding World lore fans are so familiar with.

This is probably done to lessen the possibility of fooling people into thinking you are an actual animal. Many people, though, fail to disclose this talent.

In other words, there’s a possibility that, whenever you pet a cat in the game, you’re actually just petting an ominous old wizard creeping about (sounds familiar?).

One Reddit user also shared a piece of lore about an unregistered Animagus who changed into a cat to obtain free pets and tuna.

As would be expected, the post received a lot of attention and has awakened many people from their cat-petting habits.

During an interview, Tabitha stated that “An unregistered Animagus was apprehended by the Ministry of Magic last night after it came to light that she’d been posing as her neighbour’s cat for the past 15 years. The calico feline nicknamed ‘Tubs,’ was revealed by officials to be 51-year-old ex-Auror Patricia McManners after Tubs’s owner, Tabitha, noticed the cat frequenting the neighbouring property. ‘I felt a bit betrayed. There was giving Tubs all of the head scratches and tuna that she could want, and off she would go to the McManners’s place. I thought that she was scrounging for extra food, pretending I had not fed her.'”

“It appears that the infiltration started when Patty began to suspect Tabitha of Dark Magic, which turned out to be just catnip. Asked whether she still felt any resentment towards Patty. ‘Can’t say that I do. Patty was always a good cat. Greedy, yes, but good. In fact, I was rather hoping she would agree to keep being my cat again after all of this is over,” Tabitha went on to say.

Other fans were quick to point out that this isn’t the only instance of wizards and witches impersonating animals in the comments section of this Reddit post.

For many years, Peter Pettigrew, also known as Wormtail, pretended to be Ron Weasley’s pet rat, Scabbers.

That being said, in Hogwarts Legacy, it’s smart not to trust the animals.
