Google Pixel 7 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max? Can Google Finally Surpass Apple in the Smartphone Area?

Apple

Another serious Apple vs. Google battle is looming in 2022, and this time, it’s time for smartphones to be under the spotlight. Who would have thought that Google would ever have a chance to compete with Apple in this area? While the tech colossus based in Cupertino released its latest iPhone 14 lineup last month, there are only a few days away until the new Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro flagship phones will be unveiled: the launch is scheduled for Thursday, October 13.

Gladly, we already know all the main details about what the new Pixel 7 lineup is capable of. Both iPhone 14 Pro Max and Google Pixel 7 Pro are amazing gadgets, and surely it’s not a bad idea to buy either one of them. But while it’s only a matter of days until Google will prove to the world that it has repaired some mistakes of the past regarding the Pixel lineup of smartphones, the question that many have right now is this: can Google finally overcome Apple in the smartphone field? Keep reading to find out our answer!

iPhone 14 Pro Max: a phone that takes care of the user

One of the main features of the new iPhone 14 lineup that has caught the attention of everyone is the crash detection system. Let’s suppose you buy yourself an iPhone 14. You are driving to work and, God forbid, you go through an accident. The iPhone 14 is able to automatically detect such a possible event due to the bump that the car has been through, and it will ask your permission to call the emergency service. If you don’t respond to the request, which is, unfortunately, likely to happen if you’ve been through an accident, the iPhone 14 will automatically announce to the emergency service that you need help.

Otherwise, another major improvement for the new iPhone 14 is represented by the processor. Two out of the four variants of the iPhone 14 lineup, namely the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, are carrying the A16 Bionic chipset from Apple. That’s likely the best processor that currently exists for smartphones.

The cameras of the iPhone 14 Pro Max are also pretty outstanding – a triple camera setup on the rear having the main wide lens of 48MP and the selfie camera that consists of a wide 12MP lens. The new iPhone 14 Pro Max can record video up to 4K with both of its camera setups. There are also some interesting features available for the cameras, and we can mention 3x optical zoom, sensor-shift OIS, dual pixel PDAF, HDR (photo/panorama), Cinematic mode, ProRes, etc.

iPhone 14 Pro Max also features an LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED display of 6.7 inches, 120Hz for the refresh rate, while it also features HDR10 and Dolby Vision.

Google Pixel 7 Pro: an impressive AI camera

Perhaps the top addition of the upcoming Pixel 7 Pro flagship from Google is its AI-based main camera. The main setup from the rear consists of three lenses: a wide one reaching 50MP, the telephoto sensor that’s capable of 48MP, and the 12MP ultrawide lens. The AI technology built into the camera setup will allow users to enjoy amazing features such as unblurring photos when needed, increasing Night Sight, or stabilizing footage more efficiently. These will be possible also thanks to the new Tensor G2 processor that was built by Google itself.

The selfie camera mounted on the Google Pixel 7 Pro consists of an ultrawide sensor of 10.8MP. You can record video with this camera or by using the rear setup up to 4K@60fps.

Google Pixel 7 Pro is also equipped with an LTPO AMOLED display of 6.7 inches, 120Hz for refresh rate, and it features HDR10+.

Conclusions

The price difference between the two phones is huge, as the iPhone 14 Pro Max costs almost twice as Pixel 7 Pro. Therefore, you should definitely go for buying Google’s new phone if you care too much about the price aspect. On the other hand, we still have some time to wait to see the new Pixel phone in action, reviewed by the book, and so on. No disrespect intended for Google, but the real-life experience can differ a bit from some info written on a spec sheet or from an official presentation video. We already know everything there is to know regarding the iPhone 14 lineup, as it’s been out since September. We’ve seen the new iPhones from Apple in reviews, stores, and so on. Our best recommendation is to hold your horses a bit in case you’re already eager to choose between the two smartphones, Pixel 7 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max.

But at this moment, buying the cheaper phone seems the right option if your budget is not too high.

If you’re too impressed with the new crash detection system or the cameras of the iPhone 14 Pro Max, sure, go ahead and buy Apple’s new device!

The 12GB of RAM and the new Tenson G2 processor that the Pixel 7 Pro carries should likely make the phone at least as good as the iPhone 14 Pro Max when it comes to tasks such as browsing, social media, watching videos, and much more. But we all know about the well-known smoothness of the iPhones, and that might not be surpassed even by the new Pixel 7 Pro’s Tensor G2 processor. Once again, we all need to see the new Pixel phone in action to be sure just how fast and smooth it works. For the hardware part, the result seems to be a stalemate for the moment, as both iPhone 14 Pro Max and Google Pixel 7 Pro have pretty even specs.

Either way, Google created a pretty impressive smartphone that will surely pose a lot of competition to the new iPhone 14 Pro Max.
