After two failed attempts by Fox to bring Marvel’s First Family to the big screen, Marvel Studios is now working on a relaunch of the Fantastic Four franchise, which is scheduled to be released in November 2024. The production is slated to begin the following year, so the quest for the ideal cast and team to bring the well-known heroes into the Marvel Cinematic Universe has already begun.

There has been a heated debate about which actors would be most suitable to play the four leading roles, but the director’s position is one of the chairs that will be among the most difficult to fill. Jon Watts, director of Spider-Man: No Way Home, was at once slated to take on the task of the reboot; however, he ultimately decided to step away from the superhero genre and abandon the project.

John Krasinski, Peyton Reed, & Steven Spielberg are just a few of the directors whose names have been bandied around in recent weeks as possible candidates to helm Fantastic Four. There were rumors that Marvel Studios was looking at a well-known actor to direct its biggest reboot to date, and it appears that a choice has finally been made in this regard.

Matt Shakman, director of WandaVision, is reportedly in talks to take up directing duties for Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four, which is scheduled to be released in theaters on November 8, 2024. After Jon Watts’ departure from the Spider-Man film production in April of 2022, Shakman will take over the director’s chair to continue the franchise.

Even though Disney and Marvel Studios have not commented on the rumors that Shakman will be appearing in the film, Marvel Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige is expected to make the announcement official at the studio’s presentation at the D23 Expo on September 10.
