EA Reveals That FIFA 23 Will Lack Russian Teams

Source: EA

FIFA 23 is arriving on September 30, and we just got the official reveal trailer from EA, uncovering some important aspects of the upcoming game. It seems that for the first time in the history of the football simulation series, the emphasis will be equal for men and women who are into football. Women’s football will be supported just as well as the same sport played by men.

A lot of people suspected that EA wouldn’t include any Russian teams in the next FIFA game, whether we’re talking about clubs or national teams. The reason is the one we’re all thinking about: Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine that started back in February.

Solidarity with Ukraine

In an email for PC Gamer, EA explained:

EA Sports stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and like so many voices across the world of football, calls for peace and an end to the invasion of Ukraine,

In line with our partners at FIFA and UEFA, EA Sports will not include the Russian national team or Russian clubs in FIFA 23.

FIFA 23 will also mark a premiere for the fact that it will include women’s football clubs. In case some people didn’t know, there are plenty of ladies out there who also like to play football.

EA already did something similar with the current FIFA 22, removing all Russian teams from the game because of Ukraine’s invasion. Therefore, it seemed almost inevitable that the same policy would be applied to FIFA 23 as well.

We all have to admit that Russian football is one of the best in Eastern Europe. But even without any teams from Russia, there are plenty of reasons to expect that FIFA 23 will be a great game. EA even promised us all that FIFA 23 would be the best FIFA game ever. What’s for sure is that it will be the last one since EA is changing the name of the series to ‘EA SPORTS FC’ in 2024.
