You may be well aware of the recent news about Samsung pushing the Android 13-based One UI 5.0 update to many of the company’s smartphones. Models such as the Galaxy S21 series, the Z Fold 3 series, and others are already receiving the update.

Samsung Galaxy XCover 5, meaning a very durable smartphone built by the South Korean giant, is now receiving the Android 13-based One UI 5.0 update, according to SAMMOBILE. The SM-G525F model of the phone is benefiting from the new update. This means that if you own such a phone, the update should arrive any moment now. However, the rollout is available for the moment mostly for the European market. The November 2022 security patch is also included in the update package, which is great news if you want to be very secure while using the Galaxy XCover 5.

Samsung Galaxy XCover 5 remains a strong phone

Being classified as a rugged phone, the Galaxy XCover 5 device built by Samsung stands out for some pretty unique features. It’s the kind of phone that construction workers should use, even with their gloves on. The touchscreen works fine in difficult conditions, and so does the rest of the device. The phone won’t get damaged if you drop it from 1.5 meters above the surface, for instance. Reaching an IP68 and MIL-STD810H rating, the Galaxy XCover 5 model will be just fine after contact with water, dust, or sand.

Another interesting feature of the XCover 5 model is that unlike most smartphones nowadays, it has a removable battery. That battery is also capable of 3,000mAh, which is not much but still decent for a phone in 2022.

What Android 13 brings new

There are many interesting additions coming along with Android 13, and we’re glad to mention a few of them here. The cameras can benefit from new features and APIs. After a phone gets updated to Android 13, apps can use Camera2 APIs, which will grant them the possibility to capture and preview video content in HDR.

Android 13 also brings along several updates to make the user align with the OpenJDK 11 LTS.

Since it came in stable form back in August, Android 13 has updated the emoji system to the COLRv1 format. COLR version 1 fonts also receive rendering support due to the update.

The developer productivity and tools area has also not been neglected by Google, as Android 13 brings some changes here as well. The changes are related to the Text Conversion APIs. With the new update, apps are able to call the next text conversion API. This allows users who speak languages with phonetic lettering input methods to find what they’re looking for in a faster and easier way than before.

Of course, the new Android 13 update is also focusing on privacy and security, and now we’ll take into account the exporting of context-registered receivers in a safer way. As quoted from the Android Developers Blog, this is what those terms mean:

To help make runtime receivers safer, Android 13 allows you to specify whether a particular broadcast receiver in your app should be exported and visible to other apps on the device.

If patience is not among your list of virtues, you can simply use the Download and install option from the Settings menu of your phone and then tap on the Software update menu to see if the update has arrived or not. That’s the manual installation process that you can use if you own a Samsung Galaxy XCover 5.

Samsung released the Galaxy XCover 5 last year in March, and the device initially came with Android 11 out of the box. An Exynos 850 chipset is what’s powering the phone, while the display makes the gadget perfectly usable with one hand, as it measures only 5.3 inches.
