This Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Feature is No Longer Available, Here’s Why

Source: Game Freak

Sad news for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet fans: an iconic feature is now missing! As the game improves and allows more and more character customization, a 9-year-old feature was removed without reason.

How will such a thing affect the in-game experience? Discover the full story below and learn more about it.

No More Skirts in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Even with performance concerns, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet provide some sleek, never-seen-before features while strengthening the groundwork set by earlier games. I mean, let’s face it. Gen 9 is one of the greatest mainline games to date, isn’t it?!

So, where does the latest issue stand?

It is a fact that Gen 9 has also paid more attention to detail than any other game in the franchise. For example, the devs created particular animations of how some Pokemon vanish from the overworld, and it’s totally incredible!

On the other hand, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s character customization has come a long way from Gen 8 alone, but some stuff is clearly needing some attention.

Let’s take the fact that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players can never actually take their school uniforms off to change their outfits. So, just like that, the options are severely constrained by the fact that school uniforms dominate the entire ensemble, and honestly, they’re a bit annoying.

However, as previously said, a significant feature was removed.

The greatest problem with character customization is that you can’t wear skirts anymore. The reason?

Why were skirts eliminated?

Since trainers from all over the world could customize the appearance of their in-game avatars, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s complete removal of both skirts and dresses is not only absurd but also violates a long-standing tradition. Quite disappointing, isn’t it?!

Regardless of the gender players choose for their characters at the start of the game, school uniforms always include shorts and pants, which doesn’t make much sense. The lack of clothing options doesn’t help, too, since Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s gendered language is already a significant problem inside the game at a time when Gen 9 appears to encourage a more open approach to LGBTQIA+ representation through both its NPCs and the character customization screen.

Can you understand the issue here?

Allowing players to wear cute little skirts and dresses would have continued a ten-year trend that, let’s face it, was never in need of being stopped.

It seems doubtful that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s DLC can make up for Game Freak’s decision to eliminate a long-standing female-empowering element that has been present since Gen 6, but at least we can hope!
