What gamer who’s into battle royale titles can possibly not be a fan of PUBG: Battlegrounds? The renowned game released four years ago offers us all a new reason to be part of its enormous fan base. According to the game’s website, we’ll have a month to wait until PUBG: Battlegrounds becomes free to play.

Starting January 12, PUBG: Battlegrounds becomes available for free for those willing to play it from the PC or from one of the usual consoles. But there’s something you need to know that has surely upset some fans already.

Battlegrounds Plus won’t be free of charge

Even though the basic PUBG game won’t cost you any money, you’ll have to dig a bit in your pocket for Battlegrounds Plus – it would cost you $12.99. We’re talking about a premium account upgrade for allowing access to new features: Captain’s Camo set, Ranked Mode, Custom Match functionality, and more.

CH Kim, CEO of KRAFTON, Inc, declared:

As PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS pioneered the battle royale genre and has grown into a globally influential game IP, this is the perfect time to transition to F2P and welcome new players to the game,

The game has grown substantially since we brought it to Early Access nearly five years ago, and we believe it offers one of the best values in gaming. Whether it’s the game’s eight unique maps, consistently updated features or engaging in-game partner activations, transitioning to F2P is the next step in our journey to widen the scope of the PUBG IP through content that both new and veteran players will love.

The upgrading option for Battlegrounds Plus is purely optional, meaning that you’ll get to enjoy a lot of free PUBG if you’re into battle royale titles.
