When you say ‘Niantic,’ the name of the first game that pops into your mind is Pokemon GO. But the San Francisco-based company is now preparing to start working on ‘NBA All-World,’ according to The Verge.

‘NBA All-World’ is not based only on sports, as Niantic will also add some augmented-reality elements to it. In fact, the new title will embrace the metaverse. While it’s not exactly easy to imagine how that would work, we have some official statements to shed some light on the mystery.

NBA All World will be available for Android and iOS

The upcoming NBA World game will be a mix between sports and the metaverse, which means that we already have some strong reasons to wait for its launch.

Another similarity with Pokemon GO is that NBA All World will also be available exclusively for Android and iOS devices. This is unsurprising when you’re talking about an augmented-reality game where you obviously need to move around a lot.

Here’s what senior producer Marcus Matthews had to say for the press, as The Verge quotes:

We’re enveloping the world around you into a basketball universe, or what I personally like to call turning the real world into a basketball theme park,

Now, places and objects in the real world will become video game items; the convenience store near you has become a location to pick up stamina for your NBA player, the sporting goods store around the corner is the place to pick up the latest brand name shoe to customize your players.

If that’s not enough, you can also keep in mind that in NBA All-World, you can find basketball courts throughout the map and challenge other players for a match.

The world of sports gaming could sure use a new NBA game, and the development of ‘NBA All-World’ has already gotten us excited.

If everything goes well, we should see NBA All-World released in full during the next NBA season.
