The information about Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 being present on the Motorola Moto X40 isn’t new, as a previous article also shared such news. But meanwhile, we got our hands on fresh information regarding the release date of the upcoming device, and it’s scheduled to launch earlier than many of us even dared to hope.

Motorola Moto X40 launches on December 15

The release date for Motorola’s upcoming Moto X40 device is scheduled for next week on Thursday, December 15, as NextPit informs. Considering the implementation of such a powerful chipset like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 on the future phone, you can easily guess that the rest of the specs can’t possibly be weak. So let’s dive into some important details!

Motorola Moto X40 will be available in Europe and South America as the Motorola Edge 40 Pro. The cameras of the device are among the strongholds, and we’re glad to share with you what they will be capable of! The AMOLED display measures 6.67 inches, and it reaches an incredible maximum refresh rate of 165Hz. That’s one of the highest refresh rates available for a phone!

You’ll likely take some impressive photos by using the Motorola Moto X40 device due to its camera setup. There are two lenses mounted on the rear that reach 50MP each – the main and ultra-wide-angle lenses, to be more precise. There will also be a 12MP telephoto lens mounted in the same setup. Moto X40 is surely a great phone for vlogging as well, as its front camera reaches 60MP.

Motorola Moto X40 will also feature an incredible amount of RAM of up to 18GB, which is more than most laptops existing out there on the market are capable of.

As you’ve probably already guessed, Motorola Moto X40 will be the first smartphone of the company to feature the next-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset from Qualcomm. It will surely not be the last one!

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2: what’s new

Judging by the Geekbench 5 tests, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is one of the fastest processors out there, but it’s still no match for the A16 Bionic chipset implemented on the new iPhone 14 lineup, for instance. According to Unite4Buy, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset has scored 1387 points in single-core and 4506 points in multi-core score during Geekbench 5 testing. Such results still place the chipset higher than its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, especially for the multi-core score. Testing in Geekbench for the latter chipset indicates a score of 1293 points in single-core and 3841 points in multi-core, according to nanoreview.net.

A part of the above video’s description tells us the following about the new chipset:

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 integrates AI across the entire system, fueling enhanced experiences with unprecedented efficiency. Our AI-enhanced Cognitive ISP provides ingenious photo and video capture with real-time Semantic Segmentation. Plus, Snapdragon sets the industry standard for Hardware-Accelerated Ray Tracing as a brand-new Snapdragon Elite Gaming feature.

Qualcomm also promises to provide “champion level gameplay” due to its new mobile chipset, and who are we to contradict them? Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 also features the fastest Qualcomm AI Engine in history, and we can sure have great hopes if we aim to buy a phone packed with such a processor. Playing games such as PUBG Mobile, Call of Duty Mobile, Shadowgun Legends, Fortnite, ARK: Survival Evolved, or Real Racing 3 by using the latest Qualcomm processor should definitely be smoother than ever.
