HBO has released the first trailer for The Last of Us episode 6, which will air on Sunday, in addition to releasing episode 5 of the series earlier than usual.

The episode’s preview, titled “Kin,” confirms several key plot points, including that Joel and Tommy will reunite at last.

Additionally, their reunion takes place in Jackson rather than at the hydroelectric dam seen in the game, which will be familiar to gamers.

Because of this shift in location, game fans will immediately recognize certain locations that, in the game weren’t revealed until The Last of Us Part II.

The episode’s promo, also teases some additional action scenes and Rutina Wesley’s Maria’s arrival!

As it appears, this week’s early drop was solely due to the Super Bowl occurring around the same time, HBO hasn’t confirmed whether or not the upcoming episode will also premiere early.

The Last of Us has already received a second season renewal from HBO thanks to the huge success it’s been receiving week after week.

The series will reportedly go on to focus on the events of The Last of Us Part II, though it’s unclear when filming will resume or when we can expect its release.

However, it seems that fans will soon be able to visit Jackson again once the new season begins because some of the game’s iconic locations have already had their sets built.

Neil Druckmann previously stated about the renewal that “I am humbled, honored, and frankly, just overwhelmed so many people have tuned in and have connected with the retelling of Joel and Ellie’s whole journey. The collaboration with Craig Mazin, with our incredible cast and crew, and HBO exceeded my high expectations. Now we have the pleasure of being able to do it all again with season 2! On behalf of everybody at Naughty Dog and PlayStation, thank you!”

Every Sunday at 9 p.m. Eastern, The Last of Us airs on HBO and on HBO Max.

The Last of Pods premieres immediately after each episode as well so make sure to check it out since the podcast has more Last of Us content to enjoy.

Every episode of the podcast intends to break down each episode of the HBO series, and there will also be interviews with special guests from the show.
