You can say all you want about GTA 3 – that it had terrible graphics, a boring story, predictable gameplay, and so on. But it remains the title that made the shift from the 2D era of the Grand Theft Auto series to the 3D environment. Without GTA 3, there probably wouldn’t have existed a major blockbuster like GTA 5. And hey, what could you possibly expect from a game released two decades ago?

GTA 3 was fabulous for its time when it came out in 2001. It brought the world a captivating open-world environment where the protagonist character Claude gets into a lot of trouble with all sorts of bad guys. Many years after the game’s initial release, modders created impressive remakes of the game. You can see in the video below how a YouTuber uses “a variety of mods to overhaul GTA 3 in HD and give it a fresh modern look while also staying faithful to the original”.

Rockstar has made a tremendous jump with the next release of the series after GTA 3, namely GTA 4. Even if we compare the new looks from the video above with GTA 4, the 2008 game that has Niko Bellic as the protagonist still wins fair and square.

Get ready for GTA 6!

Who knows what the developers from Rockstar could invent next? What’s for sure is that the long-awaited GTA 6 is in the works for quite a while. It’s only a matter of time until it shall be released, although it could happen in a few months or after several years. Rumours speculate that gamers will finally see a female protagonist character and a return to Vice City in GTA 6, and we can’t wait to find out for sure!

It’s been almost eight years already since GTA 5 was released, the latest major iteration of the Grand Theft Auto series. The wait was rough, and we can expect GTA 6 to be only better.
