The upcoming upgrades to the Google Play System in August 2022 have been detailed by Google, and they include a redesigned version of AutoFill and the addition of Material You for Android’s Help app.

Although many new Android features are introduced with annual releases such as Android 13, our mobile devices also receive quite a few upgrades throughout the year through Google Play Services. This app, together with the Play Store and the “Google Play system updates” that were launched with Android 10, forms the basis for a significant portion of what allows our smartphones to perform their intelligent functions. Google announces what’s new across these three pillars on the first day of every month and continually releases updated patch notes throughout the month.

How to get the update?

You can check to see if you need to update Google Play Services on your phone by following a direct link to the app’s listing in the Play Store and updating from there, if an update is available. This is the method that is the easiest to use. Tap “Settings” after tapping your avatar in the upper-right corner of the screen to update the Play Store. You will find an option to “Update Play Store” in the section labeled “About” of the app. In the meanwhile, you can access Google Play system updates by going to the About phone section of the Settings app, then selecting Android version, and finally selecting Google Play system update.

What’s new?

In spite of the fact that the first patch notes were released almost exactly halfway through the month, there isn’t a whole lot to write about in the Google Play System updates for the month of August. The Android AutoFill system has been redesigned, and this is the one change that is most likely to be seen by the most number of users. Over the next few weeks, we will be keeping a close watch for this makeover to take place.
