Perhaps everybody knows by now that exaggerating with beer or wine isn’t a smart move if you care about your health. When you reach a certain age, you’ll even have to be extra careful with them alcoholic drinks.

In other words, we become less tolerant with alcohol as we get older. Our bodies just won’t perceive it the same as they did when we were much younger and ‘lords of the drinks’. BestLifeOnline.com reveals a list of five drinks we should never be ordering once we reach the age of 65 years old:

1. Stiff drinks

The appearance of stiff drinks on this list surely doesn’t surprise you. They are strong alcoholic drinks. Avoiding all mixed drinks that contain over 30 percent alcohol is a great idea.

Angelina Chikhalina, who’s a community relations director at Amica Senior Lifestyles, declared as BestLifeOnline.com quotes:

Alcoholic drinks may cause seniors to feel ‘high,’ thereby increasing their risk of physical accidents, especially if they already have mobility issues,

There’s also a risk when it comes to the combination of alcohol and medications which many seniors have to take. Such a mixture may place them at a significantly greater risk of serious medical issues such as stomach bleeding, drowsiness, and liver damage.

2. Brandy

Mark Davis, MD, and a physician who works with Pacific Analytics, said as quoted by the same source:

Brandy should be avoided by people over 65 since it causes the most hangover symptoms, which can get difficult to handle.

3. Non-light beer

The elders should consume light beers if they really feel the need for such beverages. These contain less alcohol than the other beers. But you should always verify the label showing the beer’s alcohol volume!

4. White wine

Trista Best, who’s a nutrition professor, believes that older adults shouldn’t consume wine made using sulfites in high amounts. By comparison, red wine usually contains fewer sulfites.

5. Sweet drinks

Combining alcohol with strawberries, for instance, is not really a good idea if you’re at least 65 years old. You could be misled from knowing the true amount of alcohol you’re intaking. Furthermore, if you’re suffering from certain underlying medical conditions such as diabetes, there you have another reason to avoid such beverages.
