Microsoft has already allowed users to play a little with Windows 11 to see how it presents itself. However, the operating system still hasn’t shown its full potential, as it’s scheduled for a full release in less than a week.

Windows 11 was announced back in June and it has its initial release date on October 5. However, there’s also a way to install the operating system and put it to work right now, according to TechAdvisor.com.

Verify your PC’s compatibility using the PC Health Check app

First and foremost, you have to make sure that your PC is capable to run Microsoft’s new operating system. You can find that out by downloading and running Microsoft’s PC Health Check app.

The next step is to sign up for the Windows Insider Program in Microsoft’s landing page.

The next phase is to follow some easy steps from your Windows 10 device:

  1. Go to Settings -> Update & Security -> Windows Insider Program
  2. Select Get Started and link the account for the Windows Insider Program.
  3. Follow the steps and make sure you’ve chosen the Release Preview Channel
  4. Agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. Reboot your device.
  6. Once it’s restarted, go back in Settings -> Update & Security. The option to upgrade to Windows 11 should be there waiting for you.
  7. Hit Download & Install to begin the process.

The upgrade to Windows 11 will also be free for those who have a licensed copy of Windows 10, which is great news.

However, Windows 11 will most probably continue receiving updates long after its initial release. Windows 10 got them even at years after its initial release. Therefore, the “final” version of Windows 11 might surely not be so final after all.

It will be interesting to see if people will prefer Windows 11. With all the efforts to convince people to upgrade to Windows 10 from previous versions, it didn’t turn out to be so successful.
