Sony Removes Specific PlayStation 5 Feature

Even though the PlayStation 5 console was sold in roughly 20 million units worldwide, very few users gave the Accolades feature a try. As a result, Sony decided that it’s a good idea to remove it. There’s no exact date revealed for when the change will take place, but we can expect it to happen at some point this fall.

The gaming company made the announcement on the official website, where it wrote:

In fall of 2022, the Accolades feature on PlayStation 5 will no longer be supported. The feature hasn’t seen the level of usage we anticipated, so we are refocusing our efforts.

The Accolades feature was built for the users to acknowledge good sportsmanship during online games. Sadly enough, it seems that not many players are willing to take advantage of the feature.

Despite the harsh but otherwise necessary action, Sony “[encourages] the community to continue to send positive messages to one another.”

Online gaming is such a widespread phenomenon nowadays, and it seems to be mostly nurtured by the cloud gaming area. There’s a prevalence of cloud gaming services out there, as more and more gamers prefer to run their favorite titles on NVIDIA GeForce Now, Google Stadia, Amazon Luna, and a lot more.

Last month, our publication shared the news about a new patent for the PlayStation 5 console that might be able to show different scenarios to the players that are based on decisions they didn’t make.
