How to Play Modern Warfare 2’s Multiplayer For Free?

Credit: Activision Blizzard

Ever thought of playing Modern Warfare for free?! Well, you can do that now! Activision is allowing the general public access to certain (but not all) of the multiplayer modes in Modern Warfare 2. But there’s a catch! You only have one week.

Activision isn’t making the whole MW2 multiplayer package for whatever reason. Only these 12 modes will be available:

  • Gunfight
  • Grind
  • Domination
  • Ground War
  • One in the Chamber
  • Invasion
  • Gun Game
  • Hardpoint
  • Kill Confirmed
  • Infected
  • Team Deathmatch
  • All or Nothing

The free Modern Warfare 2’s free week begins Wednesday (April 19) at 10 a.m. PT, 1 p.m. ET, and 6 p.m. BST and runs until April 26 at the same time. You should definitely set aside around 125 or so of gigabytes of space (the game’s suggested space needs on Steam.

All mentioned modes above are 6v6, with the exception of Gunfight, which is a 2v2 mode. Invasion and Ground War are much larger, with tens of players on each side. If you think about the whole situation here, it’s actually a pretty incredible deal. It does imply, though, that if you use the trial time, you won’t have access to modes like Search and Destroy and Free For All.

For players with free access, those modes are dispersed among 10 maps, which you can check out below:

  • 6v6 maps: Farm 18, Shoot House, Shipment, Dome, Himmelmat Expo, Pelayo’s Lighthouse
  • Ground War/Invasion map: Santa Seña
  • Gunfight maps: Alley, Blacksite, Exhibit, Shipment

Just a week following the release of the Season 03 update for Modern Warfare 2, we get to enjoy this cool free access period that’ll shortly kick in. What’s best is that it will actually allow you a chance to try out some of the new season’s content (yay!). Activision is definitely thrilled if it offers such a great deal of free access to Modern Warfare 2! I mean, just think about it, you don’t actually have to spend $30 for a new, ultra-premium Blackcell battle pass. Smart!
