Group Admins Will Be Able to Delete Users’ Messages on WhatsApp

WhatsApp beta users are now starting to experience a feature that will surely create a lot of fuss in the online realm. Group admins will have the chance to delete what other users write, and the feature will come to the stable channel soon enough, as WABetaInfo reveals.

Group admins already have some level of control over the activity of other members. Giving them the power to delete messages will also surely grant them a high responsibility, and not everyone will be delighted to use the app after such a feature is implemented. The thought that an admin can delete a message of yours anytime for the simple fact that he doesn’t like what you say is far from pleasant.

However, an interesting aspect of WhatsApp’s upcoming feature is that all users from a group will get to see that a message has been deleted by an admin. The deleted message will have a placeholder and the name of the admin who deleted it.

Meta seems to continue the policy that it already implements for social apps. On Facebook, if you post something that another user considers to be inappropriate, hate speech, racist, xenophobic, and so on, he can easily report your comment. After that, it will only be a matter of time until you’ll be banned. For the famous social network, any user has this power over those who break the rules, so it’s not mandatory to be an admin to get rid of the undesirables.

Otherwise, groups on WhatsApp represent a good idea for those who gather based on certain topics. For instance, you can join a WhatsApp group dedicated to a specific political party or a football club. Groups represent a good way to make people with the same interests meet and share thoughts with each other. Too bad they’re becoming so restrictive!
