Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake Will Have a New Developer

Here’s one thing that never gets old: Star Wars-related games. While some of them wrote history, it was only a matter of time until developers started considering reviving them via remakes for modern platforms.

One great example is Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, a game that came out almost two decades ago. A remake is on its way, and it shall be developed by Saber Interactive instead of Aspyr Media, as it was previously known, according to a report from Bloomberg and as Polygon reveals.

Embracer Group, the company owning both Saber Interactive and Aspyr Media, stated:

One of the Group’s AAA projects has transitioned to another studio within the Group. This was done to ensure the quality bar is where we need it to be for the title. We are not expecting any material delays for the title based on this transition.

Embracer Group was even diligent enough to acquire the original developer of the game, Aspyr Media, for a pretty significant amount of money: $100 million.

The official announcement was crystal clear:

Embracer Group AB (“Embracer”) through its wholly owned subsidiary Saber Interactive (“Saber”), has today entered into an agreement to acquire US-based Aspyr Media Inc (“Aspyr”) by merger from the founders Michael Rogers and Ted Staloch. The day one purchase price amounts to USD 100 million on a cash and debt free basis, where USD 60 million is paid in cash and USD 40 million is paid in newly issued Embracer B shares.

The original game set the story four thousand years before the Galactic Empire. Also, hundreds of Jedi Knights were defeated by Sith. The player becomes the last hope of the Jedi Order, as he needs to master the Force. Otherwise, he can fall into the dark side.
