New Google Pixel 8 Leak Reveals Huge Camera Upgrade

Thanks to a fresh leak, courtesy of reliable tipster Kamila Wojciechowska, we now have a glimpse into how the cameras of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro could be. The camera has always been the most impressive component of Google’s Pixel smartphones. According to a recent rumor, the next Pixel series will have certain Pro-exclusive additions, in addition to major new upgrades such as a new primary sensor and a great deal of other new features.

The Samsung ISOCELL GN2 is the new primary camera sensor that is going to be included in both Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, which is the most notable aspect of this update. This 50MP sensor is the direct successor to the GN1 sensor used in Google’s Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 cameras. What’s best is that this is also the sensor that is used in Samsung’s Galaxy S22 and S23 cameras. Quite impressive, isn’t it?!

Another specific improvement will be made to the Pixel 8 Pro’s time-of-flight sensor, which will be changed to an 8×8 ToF VL53L8 sensor.

In terms of software, well, we have plenty of details! First things first, the Google Camera app is expected to feature three huge improvements. This would feature an “Adaptive torch” that would be able to alter the LED flash strength based on the scene that you are recording and a level selection for the fake bokeh that is generated in videos by using the “Cinematic” mode.

Finally, another feature on Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro’s cameras is something dubbed “Segmentation AWB,” which can smoothly divide the scene that was photographed into several separate parts. How’s that possible? Using AI, of course!

Improvements are also being made to the ultrawide cameras on Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. For example, the Pixel 8 Pro will use the 64-megapixel Sony IMX787 sensor for its ultrawide camera. As for some telephoto lenses, only the Pixel 8 Pro will feature one.
