Microsoft Will Shut Down the Calendar and Mail Apps From Windows 11

Windows 11 was released in its stable version almost two years ago, and Microsoft still has trouble convincing users to make the upgrade to it from previous versions of Windows. The majority of people still cling to Windows 10, and the Redmond-based tech giant will have to make a pretty impressive move if it truly wants to change that.

According to XDA, Microsoft plans to shut down the Calendar and Mail apps from its Windows 11 operating system. Users don’t seem bothered about the upcoming move, as many of them were expecting and even demanding it. However, those who are in love with the aforementioned apps of Windows 11 still have plenty of time to find alternatives, as the change will take place in a few months.

The classic Universal Windows Platform (UWP) Mail and Calendar apps will disappear in 2024

Microsoft let the world know about its plans to remove the classic Universal Windows Platform (UWP) Mail and Calendar apps from its Windows 11 operating system next year. In 2024, all of the new Windows 11-based laptops and computers will be shipped to customers with the new web-based Outlook for Windows as the default mail service.

Microsoft is applying an old strategy to popularize its newest operating system, as it has done in the past with Windows 10. The company will be shipping laptops with Windows 11 on board, which will discourage many of the future users to rely on any other operating system.

Microsoft explained on its support page:

Beginning in 2024, new Windows 11 devices will be shipped with the new Outlook for Windows as the default mailbox application free for all to use. The Mail and Calendar applications will continue to be available via download in the Microsoft Store through the end of 2024. On existing devices, users can switch to the new Outlook for Windows from a toggle in the Mail and Calendar applications.
