Astronomers, philosophers, scientists in general, and even ordinary people have been hoping for centuries to encounter civilizations from other planets. That moment may finally be here after China made a huge announcement that the giant ‘Sky Eye’ telescope might have detected this year what appear to be signals coming from extraterrestrial civilizations, according to Yahoo News.
However, there’s no use opening the champagne or packing your luggage just yet. The newfound signals could also be nothing more than just radio interference. We’re hoping to get a definitive answer! Researchers with Beijing Normal University are responsible for the new findings.
Aliens or just radio interference?
While the researchers involved believe that what they found are cases of possible technological traces, as well as alien civilizations, not everybody is that optimistic.
Zhang Tongjie, a cosmologist renowned for his passion for searching for extraterrestrial civilizations, doesn’t believe so much in the possibility of the telescope having detected alien life forms. He explained as Yahoo News quotes:
The possibility that the suspicious signal is some kind of radio interference is also very high, and it needs to be further confirmed and ruled out. This may be a long process.
The Sky Eye telescope is more scientifically known as the FAST telescope (the Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope) of China, and it’s the only giant radio telescope on the planet.
Some astronomers said in the past that it should only be just a matter of time until humanity will get into contact with aliens, as other forms of life must be prevalent in the Universe. They might be proven right if what the Sky Eye telescope found turns out to really be of alien life origin.
Researchers presented their findings in a report from Science and Technology Daily.
