Perhaps everybody understood by now that regardless of how powerful and special your smartphone is, it will still become obsolete sooner or later. And judging by the current rhythm that technology is evolving, you might be willing to replace your flagship phone pretty soon after you bought it.
The New York Post reveals Apple’s new possible intentions of “killing off” millions of iPhones, relying on the claims of a leaked report. The Cupertino-based tech behemoth will have to soon update its “vintage products” list.
The iPhone 6 Plus model is still a pretty interesting one. It’s equipped with a fingerprint sensor, an Apple A8 processor, and more. However, it was released in 2014, and Apple is now considering placing it on the list of vintage phones, as MacRumors claims. A supposed memo warning reveals the possible move for December 31. From that moment, it’s only a matter of time until iPhone 6 Plus is marked as obsolete.
But what happens to obsolete iPhones? Well, Apple will simply discontinue all hardware services for them.
Repairing a “vintage” smartphone or even finding spare parts for it will become a lot harder, and nobody is a fan of those situations.
There’s a difference between what Apple labels as “vintage” and what it considers “obsolete”. Vintage iPhones will keep that status for two years. Afterward, they’ll become obsolete.
Apple’s latest smartphone is the iPhone 13 Pro Max model, and it’s a true powerhouse. The gadget runs on A15 Bionic, meaning a very fast chipset built by Apple itself. The chipset is even considered among the fastest ones when it comes to smartphones. There’s also enough storage to add many of your favorite games, movies, apps, TV series, and more. iPhone 13 Pro Max is available in three versions of storage: 128GB, 256GB, and 1TB.
