Why is Disney Plus Losing More TV Shows and Movies? Here’s a Reason Why

Are you worried about Disney Plus losing more and more TV shows and movies? Well, we bet you’re not the only one. There’s a recent content purge, one that left us all with a sour taste. Unfortunately, things with Disney Plus’ content are about to get worse.

According to recent reports, The Walt Disney Company will soon make drastic changes because it intends to delete even more content from its streaming services by filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

This news comes less than two weeks after the Walt Disney Company quietly pulled hundreds of titles from the libraries of its key streaming partners. Disney has canceled a number of shows, including Willow, The World According to Jeff Goldblum, Pistol, and Y: The Last Man. In addition to those four series, a slew of movies came out, such as the reimagining of “Better Nate Than Ever” and “Cheaper by the Dozen.”

And it’s about to get worse.

Disney stated that it was “in the process of reviewing the content on its direct-to-consumer (DTC) services,” referring to Disney Plus and Hulu, in the Item 2.06 Material Impairments portion of its SEC filing. According to the document, the company “is continuing its review and currently anticipates additional produced content will be removed from its DTC and other platforms, largely during the remainder of its third fiscal quarter.”

Disney has not been coy about the whole process of the recent data wipe. CEO Bob Iger has devised a strategy to save $5.5 billion over the next five years since the entertainment giant has been losing cash recently. Can you actually believe that?! As a result, to save money, the company has laid off 7,000 workers and even took a large number of TV episodes and movies off of the biggest streaming platforms around the globe.

What are your thoughts about the recent changes on Disney Plus?

Let’s look at how things are now. The normal Disney Plus membership plan increased in price from $7.99 per month to $10.99 per month in late 2022 (and that’s only in the US). Hulu also experienced a modest price increase, from $6.99 to $7.99 per month.

As things couldn’t worsen, Disney Plus and Hulu’s back catalogs have shrunk a lot in the six months since that hike. Practically, that’s why you’re really receiving less material nowadays at the same price.
