Making money by helping scientists solve a mystery? Well, why not! A recent project has people searching for a meteorite that fell on our planet over Maine. The reward? Up to $25k! You can really say that this is a deal worth your time and definitely out of this world.
Museum curator Myles Felch released a statement explaining:
Depending on the composition of the meteorite it could be more difficult or easier to find; […] a metallic meteorite is easier to identify in the field, while a stony [one] can be more difficult for someone who is not experienced with identifying these extraterrestrial objects.
Over the weekend, a meteorite that looked a lot like a “fireball” soaring over Maine came crashing down. The catch is that whomever discovers this intriguing space rock might make a fortune out of it. Quite impressive, isn’t it?! Well, the space thingy that was discovered by NASA’s radar comes with a pretty good reward in cash: a $25,000 reward by the Maine Mineral and Gem Museum.
According to the space agency, there were many witnesses that reported seeing a strange fireball that was so brilliant even in the sun. People also said that they heard some awkward “strong sonic booms” near Calais, Maine. Could you imagine the event?! The meteorite in question (the first to be discovered in Maine since the American space agency began monitoring falling space objects via radar) was tracked for four minutes and 40 seconds, right before everything came to an end, and crashed pretty much close to the Canadian border.
NASA also explained that the chances of strong winds to also send tiny meteorites into Canada from across the border are pretty much high. Some people have already started the meteorite hunt in Maine! Who knows maybe soon someone will be lucky.
