WhatsApp’s Picture-in-Picture Mode for Video Calls on iOS is in the Tests

The instant-messaging platform is finally testing the Picture-in-Picture mode for video calls in the case of iOS users, which means that those owning iPhones or iPads will finally get the liberty that they’ve been craving.

The big announcement is brought by WhatsApp devs, which means that there’s no use being skeptical. Since so many people out there use WhatsApp for video calls, there’s no wonder why the developers choose to focus more on that area.

Picture-in-Picture mode for iOS will begin rolling out in early 2023

While the new Picture-in-Picture mode for iOS is currently available only in beta form, those willing to enjoy it in its fullness will have to wait until next year. But since next year is just about two weeks away, it means that the stable version is coming very soon.

Picture-in-Picture mode allows users to perform more than one task at once on their smartphone while also being on a video call. The in-call video screen will simply minimize when the user wants to do something else while also remaining in the call itself.

WhatsApp developers have also understood that group video calls represent an important part of the Facebook-owned instant messaging platform. “For a more seamless calling experience,” these are the other changes that were made for WhatsApp users who prefer the app via iOS devices:

• Colorful waveforms: even if the camera is turned off, users can now see easily who is speaking.
• In-call banner notifications: you can see when a new person enters a group call.
