Top 5 Sandbox Games

A sandbox game is essentially one in which the player has the majority of control as far as the storyline and decisions are concerned.

You’re basically given unrestricted freedom to alter your environment, narrative and/or characters however you see fit.

It’s safe to say that sandbox games are pretty incredible nowadays, hence their huge popularity.

That being said, we have decided to compile a short list of some of the best games in this genre in no particular order. Check them out!

  1. Minecraft

There isn’t really a better sandbox game than Minecraft for those who prefer to be left alone and do pretty much anything they can think of.

Even from the beginning of the game, there is no specific set of rules or plot. Your character creation in Minecraft is the first step.

You’ll have complete freedom to do anything you want following that.

Minecraft is meant to be unlimited, allowing players to do everything from exploring caverns and slaying monsters to creating a thriving farm and house to just exploring the environment and chatting with other players online.

  1. The Sims 4

It’s difficult to imagine that someone with even a passing interest in sandbox games hasn’t played or at least heard of The Sims 4.

Even after The Sims 1’s introduction more than 20 years ago, the famed life simulator series is still among the most well-known video game series ever!

The underlying idea hasn’t altered much despite the series’ huge advancements and adjustments over the years.

You build your characters, give them the lives you think they should have, and interact with NPCs in a way that makes you seem like their personal god.

  1. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

In terms of conception and execution, Breath of the Wild is an incredible game. It’s the ideal sandbox game for pretty much any age or skill, which makes it really accessible as well.

Exploration and original thought are key components.

This game lacks quest marks, so you are genuinely free to explore and take advantage of everything the environment has to offer.

  1. Stardew Valley

While there are defined days, objectives, and particular activities you must do as the new owner of your grandfather’s farm, everything is still planned to go at a leisurely pace.

If you truly want to, you may also take a more active approach to everything, even the special bonds you may forge with the locals.

You are free to make any of these decisions and more in Stardew Valley!

  1. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Although Skyrim has a main plot you can follow you are also welcome to just use it as a starting point before using the extensive world in whatever way you wish to.

Once you’ve designed a character, the world of Skyrim becomes your oyster!
