The new ‘Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero’ movie that just came out on June 11 in Japan has brought an entirely new different animation style to the franchise. The new CGI animation can also be reckoned as 3D, and it was generally a blessing in disguise. However, as it happens in life, not everyone is pleased.

Some Toei animators thought there would be a good idea to redraw some scenes of the new Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie in a more traditional style to the legendary franchise, according to

The animators are obviously implementing the classic 2D drawing style, where the fighters look more as they did in the Dragon Ball Super anime or in Dragon Ball Z., but you know what they say that a picture is worth a thousand words, so let’s cut to the chase:

One of the redrawn scenes is when Gohan is fighting one of the Gamma androids and receives a blow to the neck, and we can immediately see how the whole image becomes Dragon Ball Z-style. It seems that the animators might have a taste for Goku’s son getting pounded, as they also insisted on the scene where the half-blooded Saiyan gets kicked by another Gamma android. It sure looks like a piece of cake once the show is drawn by good animators! Not that we’re saying that the current CGI animation is bad!

The new Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie brought the story of Gohan struggling once again between his studying and training. In order to motivate him to gather his true fighting sense once again, Piccolo sets up a plan. Pan, the daughter of Gohan, gets kidnapped. Gohan is obviously eager to save her and teach the Gamma androids a lesson. But actions speak louder than words, so Gohan hops into the fighting outfit he got from Piccolo and starts battling the new androids. Along his new adventure, Gohan will meet an old “friend,” who’s stronger than all the other foes.
