The Sims 5: Players Are Concerned About Upcoming Mobile Support

Despite the fact that The Sims 5 has been formally unveiled, the next entry in the franchise has already got die-hard Sims fans scared.

At the recent Behind the Sims Summit, attendees got a glimpse of the next Sims game in production and heard hints of PC and mobile crossplay from The Sims’ vice president of franchise creative, Lyndsay Pearson. From what we can tell, players will be able to switch back and forth between playing the Sims on mobile and their preferred platform, and any object moved in build mode on mobile will also be moved on the other platform.

Despite the apparent benefit to mobile Simmers, subreddits dedicated to The Sims have expressed concern over how the game’s future mobile compatibility may impact the game’s visuals and performance. Players assume that if a game is PC and mobile compatible, it is designed primarily for mobile devices.

PC-Mobile crossplay is a HUGE red flag. That means the game will be made to be playable in both platforms, and that limits its potential graphic and gameplay-wise. Just see all the downgrades that happened with FIFA (also a EA franchise, let me remind you) when it became crossplatform

Others were concerned that the game would lack the hyper-immersive gameplay that fans of the series are expecting to be included in the next installment if it were optimized for mobile devices. One commenter tried to allay fears by speculating that The Sims 5 might not be “completely crossplay,” but rather give players the option to design and construct rooms that might be saved in the game’s virtual library.

The Sims 5/Project Rene’s compatibility with mobile devices is unknown at this point, and given how early in development the game is, it may be some time before we learn more about EA’s plans in this regard. Here’s hope that the upcoming Sims game includes all the features fans want.
