The Last of Us TV Series Expected to be Released in 2023

One of the most anticipated TV series that is expected to air next year is The Last of Us, which is inspired by Sony’s mega-hit video game with the same name.

The production of the series was announced more than two years ago, before the second installment of the game, The Last of Us Part II, was released. According to wccftech.com, filming for the series took place in Calgary, Alberta, and the budget for its production amounts to approximately $200 million per year.

The latest news about the upcoming series has been recently offered by HBO’s Chef Content Officer himself, Casey Bloys, who confirmed that The Last of Us will begin to air on HBO at the beginning of 2023 but without providing an exact release date. The HBO official website only features a synopsis of the show, but not an official trailer.

The story takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.

The Last of Us TV series is written and produced by Craig Mazin, who also worked on another popular HBO series, Chernobyl, and Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckman, who worked on the Uncharted and Last of Us franchises.

The storyline of the show is expected to follow the events in the original The Last of Us game, as well as the ones in the sequel, The Last of Us 2.

As far as the cast is concerned, the Last of Us series will star some established names in the film industry. Joel will be played by Pedro Pascal, known for his roles in The Mandalorian, Game of Thrones and other well-known productions, while Ellie will be played by Bella Ramsey, who also stared in the Game of Thrones series. Joel’s younger brother, Tommy, will be played by Gabriel Luna, who you might remember from productions like True Detective or Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD. Marlene, the leader of The Fireflies will be interpreted by Merle Dandrige, while Nico Parker will star as Sarah, Joel’s daughter.
