The iOS YouTube App is Getting the “Picture-in-Picture” Feature

The YouTube app for mobile devices is an immeasurable tool, but it can become even greater with the “picture-in-picture” feature. Those who have iPhones and other iOS devices weren’t having such a privilege of watching YouTube videos on their gadgets while also looking for something else on the internet, but that will soon change.

Engadget.com has great news for iOS users: the PiP (picture-in-picture) feature is finally making its way for them as well, but there’s a catch that not many will like: for the moment, it’s only a premium feature. But hey, better than nothing, right?

All iOS users from the US will get the PiP feature

Although, for the moment, only the Premium subscribers will have access to the long-awaited feature on iOS devices, YouTube will enhance the functionality to all those who live in the USA and own an iPhone or other gadget that runs on iOS.

A YouTube spokesperson said for Engadget.com:

Picture-in-Picture allows users to watch YouTube videos in a small mini player while simultaneously browsing outside of the YouTube app on their mobile device,
We’re starting to roll out PiP for YouTube Premium members on iOS, and plan to launch PiP for all US iOS users as well.

There are so many situations when you would want to do something else while watching a YouTube video at the same time. Let’s suppose you’re video calling a friend via WhatsApp and he sends you a YouTube video to prove something. He could easily see your reaction in real-time while you’re watching the video and talking to him at the same time. There are countless other examples that prove the utility of YouTube’s PiP feature, and the users are even free to come up with new ones!

While there’s no exact release date available for YouTube’s PiP feature for non-Premium users, the best thing you can do if you own an iOS device is to keep an eye on it and its notification system!
