Tesla Prepares to Add Bitcoin as a Payment Method

Tesla, a company known for its rocky relationship with cryptocurrencies, had previously stopped accepting Bitcoin as payment because of environmental concerns. However, there are indications that Tesla might reverse this action soon.

A Twitter source reveals that Tesla’s website code now includes features for Bitcoin payments. Interestingly, the code also references Dogecoin, which is the favorite cryptocurrency of Elon Musk. While this doesn’t confirm Tesla’s intentions, we have to admit that it would be unusual to add such features without planning to use them.

Part of a Twitter post reads:

Bitcoin. We are concerned about rapidly increasing use of fossil fuels for Bitcoin mining and transactions, especially coal, which has the worst emissions of any fuel.

Cryptocurrency is a good idea on many levels and we believe it has a promising future, but this cannot come at great cost to the environment.

Despite the previous criticism of Bitcoin’s environmental impact, Tesla seems to be making strategic changes, including pricing adjustments as well as diversification efforts with NACS charging hardware and Supercharger licensing.

In a previous post, we spoke about how Nissan is set to break new ground as the pioneering Japanese automaker to embrace the North American Charging Standard (NACS) hardware of Tesla. By 2024, Nissan will make a shift from CCS to NACS hardware, and from 2025 onward, all their EVs will come equipped with NACS ports. This remarkable move marks Nissan as the first of its kind in Japan to adopt such a charging standard. To further cement its commitment to electric mobility, Nissan has ambitious plans to introduce 19 new electric models by the year 2030.

What do you think about Tesla’s plan to use Bitcoin for payment? Are you a fan of the idea or not? Feel free to leave your thoughts below in the comments!
