Perhaps nobody can deny the importance of the Snipping Tool app in Windows, as it surely comes in handy each time you need to take a picture of a certain area of your screen. After it has long been demanded, a video recording feature is finally being added to the Snipping Tool in Windows 11 by Microsoft.
There’s no use opening the champagne just yet, as you know that old proverb that you can’t have your cake and eat it too. The new update is available only for Dev Channel Insiders. If you’re a member, you can already put the new feature to the test.
Version 11.2211.35.0 of the Snipping Tool app is getting the new video recording feature, which means that the update should arrive to you any day from now. Just in case you needed another reason to make the upgrade to Windows 11, if you haven’t done so already, there you have it: an improved version of the Snipping Tool app. We’re guessing that it should become available for the rest of the Windows users soon enough.
Microsoft itself made the big announcement about the update on its Windows Insider Blog, where it wrote:
We know that Snipping Tool is a favorite among the Insider community, so we are very excited to introduce a built-in screen recorder with this update! Snipping Tool has always made it quick and easy to capture and share content from your PC, and with screen recording built-in, we are expanding these capabilities to even more types of content.
Snipping Tool is an app preinstalled in Windows operating systems, so you won’t have to look for any download link online. The software is two decades old already, as it has been around since 2002 when it was included in Windows Vista. Otherwise, that operating system was perhaps the most criticized one of all those that were built by Microsoft.
