Sean Schemmel Compares Dragon Ball’s Goku to Quagmire

Sean Schemmel, the actor who plays the voice of Goku in the English dub version, is well-known as a guy who doesn’t hesitate to talk about his character openly and often in an amusing way. He made a lot of people laugh when he compared the Super Saiyan transformation to going to the bathroom, for instance. But at the same time, Sean surely knows how to be serious when the situation asks for it.

A lot of people had been complaining that Dragon Ball Super made Goku dumb and overly obsessed with fighting. It’s like our favorite Saiyan had returned to his old character when he was a child. We’re not here to contradict the idea one bit, and Sean Schemmel seems to confirm it in an elegant and diplomatic way.

Is Goku similar to Quagmire from Family Guy?

Sean Schemmel spoke for ComingSoon.net about Goku’s resemblance with Quagmire from Family Guy. The mighty Saiyan is well-known for his will to forgive his enemies, and he has pretty much done the same with Broly. In the latest movie Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero that came out this year, Goku brought Broly to Beerus’ planet for a training session.

When asked about Goku’s capacity to forgive his opponents, Sean explained that it’s more about the Saiyan’s passion for battle rather than the will to forgive. The actor explained, as the publication mentioned above quotes:

“Really what it is, is Goku is like Quagmire, but instead of for ladies, it’s for fighting. So he’s bringing the ladies, as it were, Broly, to the planet because he wants more good fighting. So I don’t know if it’s about forgiveness and openness as much as it is “that guy’s strong. I want to fight him. Let’s bring him!” And he doesn’t give a shit about … like he brought Cell to King Kai’s planet and they blew up King Kai. So Goku’s … I hate to use this phrase or this word, but I don’t know. We’ll say absent-minded versus selfish, you know what I mean? The endgame for Goku is, “am I fighting someone strong today?” That’s the endgame for Goku. So while I appreciate you casting positive forgiveness and stuff on to Goku, I have a hard time believing that that’s true.”
